Work at Granville & Avery Automotive

Granville & Avery Automotive is a family-owned, independent auto repair shop in Vancouver’s Marpole neighbourhood. We’ve been here since 1988, and we’re BCAA-approved. We’re a small team. We focus on honest diagnostics, quality work, and clear talk with customers. It’s a neighbourhood shop, not a corporate one, and we don’t do the hard sell.

We work on a wide mix of vehicles: domestic, import, European, light trucks, hybrids, and more and more EVs.

We’re hiring for two full-time roles:

Automotive Technician (Level 3+)

Full-timeMonday to FridayPay discussed at interview

We’re hiring a technician, and the trade is the main job. We’re accepting Level 3 and up: Red Seal / Journeyperson, or a Level 3+ apprentice with the tickets to show it. (Level 1–2 apprentices aren’t a fit for this posting.)

What you’ll do

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of makes and models, including light trucks, hybrids, and EVs
  • Do the work to a high standard of quality and safety, following manufacturer procedures and shop standards
  • Use digital vehicle inspection tools (we use AutoLeap) and document what you find with clear photos and notes
  • Explain technical findings in plain language so customers understand the recommendations
  • Keep a clean, organized bay and follow shop safety protocols
  • Mentor apprentices or less experienced techs when needed, and help keep the team positive
  • Stay current as vehicle technology changes
  • Handle the basic jobs when needed: wiper blades, cabin filters, washer fluid

What we’re looking for

  • Level 3 or higher. Red Seal / Journeyperson preferred; a Level 3+ apprentice with tickets is acceptable.
  • Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing modern vehicles
  • Troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, braking, suspension, and drivability systems
  • A clean BC Class 5 driver’s licence (or better)
  • Comfortable working in a small, busy independent shop with a small team
  • You take constructive feedback well and use it to improve
  • Comfortable on a computer (we use AutoLeap)
  • Already authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship

Experience with European vehicles, hybrids, or Tesla and EV work is useful but not required.

Helping at the front desk: The trade stays your main job. Because we’re a small team, we also like techs who learn the front-desk systems (AutoLeap appointments and work orders, basic parts ordering, and talking with customers) so you can help out in a pinch, like when someone is sick or we need a hand at pickup.

If you take pride in the work and want a real independent shop, we’d like to hear from you.

Service Advisor

Full-timeMonday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunchPay discussed at interview

You’re the main face of Granville & Avery. You look after the customer from the first call until they get their keys back. You can relate to anyone, from the customer who just needs a reliable commute to the enthusiast who wants to talk details, and you make every customer feel welcome and looked after.

You’re the bridge between customers and our technicians. You can talk confidently about what goes wrong with cars and how we fix them, in plain English, with no jargon, no pressure, and no surprises on the invoice. You’ll work closely with the owners and the technicians.

What you’ll do

  • Greet every customer warmly, listen carefully to the concern, and write it down
  • Take calls when needed (including for customers who don’t text much), and find ways to help customers use modern tools so they need to call less
  • Book appointments and write work orders in AutoLeap
  • Order parts and keep the work order accurate
  • Explain diagnostics and recommended work in plain language
  • Give honest timelines, and don’t promise a time the shop can’t keep
  • Send inspection findings so the customer can approve or decline, and follow up without pressure
  • Walk the customer through the work at pickup, with no surprises on the invoice
  • Handle invoicing, payments, and customer records
  • Look for ways to make shop processes easier, faster, and better, including with AI tools where they help
  • When a quick job will make a customer’s day, do it (wiper blades, cabin filters, washer fluid)

What we’re looking for

Experience (one of these):

  • Previous service advisor experience, or
  • Strong customer service experience plus hands-on automotive repair experience

Must-haves:

  • You can explain car problems and fixes confidently in plain English
  • Very comfortable with computers, and you actually want to make processes easier, faster, and better
  • Interest in AI tools (AutoLeap experience is a big plus)
  • Ideally a car enthusiast who enjoys building rapport with customers who love car talk
  • Warm and personable, and you make every customer feel welcome and looked after
  • Organized, good at multitasking, and able to juggle several customers at once
  • Able to handle the occasional conflict and find an outcome that’s fair to everyone
  • A valid BC driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Already authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship

If you like cars, like people, and can keep a small shop’s day running smoothly, we’d like to hear from you.
