Oil Changes & Scheduled Maintenance in Marpole

Most cars don't need a lot to keep running well. They need fresh oil on time, a few fluids and filters, and someone checking the parts that wear out before they become a problem. That's what an oil change and scheduled maintenance at Granville & Avery is for.

We're a family-owned, independent shop at 8865 Osler St in Marpole. We've been here since 1988. We're BCAA approved, and our technicians are Red Seal certified.

Why Oil Changes

Why oil changes matter

Engine oil keeps moving parts from wearing against each other, carries heat away, and holds dirt until the filter catches it. Over time it breaks down and gets dirty, and it stops doing that job as well. Changing it on schedule is one of the simplest ways to help an engine last.

If your oil light comes on while you're driving, that's different from being due for a change. Read our oil light guide to see what each light means and when to pull over.

What's Included

What's included

Every oil change comes with a 56-point inspection. We look over the car while it's in the bay and send you what we find, with notes and photos where they help, so you can see it for yourself. Then we tell you what needs doing now, what can wait, and what's fine. You decide what we do.

Every standard oil change includes a tire rotation too. We also check the major systems and let you know if anything needs work. If there's something you'd like us to look at, just let us know when you book.

Oil & Intervals

Which oil we use

We use Castrol oil. If you prefer a different oil, let us know and we'll see if we can get it.

How often to change your oil

The right interval depends on your car, the oil it takes, and how you drive. Your owner's manual or the maintenance reminder on your dash is the best place to start. A lot of Vancouver driving is short trips and stop-and-go traffic, and some manufacturers treat that as harder use. If you're not sure where your car falls, ask us and we'll look it up for your make and model.

As a general guide, we recommend changing synthetic oil every 6 months or 10,000 km, and regular oil every 3 months or 5,000 km, whichever comes first.

Maintenance

Scheduled maintenance

Beyond oil changes, manufacturers set out maintenance at certain mileages. That can include filters, fluids, spark plugs and inspections. We can follow your car's schedule so the work gets done on time and your service history stays complete.

If your car is under a manufacturer's warranty, please check with your dealer or warranty provider whether having it serviced here affects your coverage.

Because every oil change includes a tire rotation, you also get our free brake check. Our tire page has more on rotations and seasonal swaps.

Vehicles We Service

What we work on

We service domestic and import cars, light trucks, hybrids and European vehicles, and we generally handle tires, brakes and suspension on Teslas and other EVs. We don't work on exotics or very high-end cars. If you're not sure about yours, call to ask. We want to help where we can and not send anyone away.

EVs don't need oil changes, but they still need maintenance. For EVs we do cabin air filters, brake fluid, tire rotations and suspension checks. For anything else on a Tesla or EV, call us at 604-266-7610 and ask. If it's something we don't do, we likely know someone who does.

Oil Change FAQs

Oil change FAQ

How often should I get an oil change?

As a general guide, every 6 months or 10,000 km for synthetic oil, and every 3 months or 5,000 km for regular oil. Your owner's manual is worth checking too.

It's a check of all the major systems on your car, done with every oil change along with a tire rotation. We send you the findings so you can decide what, if anything, you want done.

Can you service my European car?

In most cases, yes. Call us first so we can confirm we can do the job.

Do you work on Teslas and other EVs?

Will servicing with you affect my warranty?

That depends on your warranty, so please check with your dealer or warranty provider before you book.
